
There is much to do in the great outdoors for the serious hiker (the hike from Greyton to McGregor over the Riviersonderend Mountains with an overnight stop in McGregor and a return hike is very popular), the happy walker (the shorter hikes in and around the Greyton Nature Reserve and the commonage are set out in book form but are also marked out on coloured stones on the ground, those who enjoy fishing and even a little horse riding. (Maps of the hikes are available at the Saturday Market or Greyton Tourism office).
When you are ready to venture out of The Post House, you will find plenty to keep you busy in Greyton. The beautiful encircling mountains offer hiking trails, waterfalls, and populations of wild flowers.
Greyton boasts a variety of art galleries, eateries and wonderful shops that have captured the spirit of Greyton and offer something for the more discerning shopper to a "thoughtful" gift for someone special.
Should you wish to pamper yourself, The Post House Beauty Salon offers a variety of treatments to help wash away the stress. There are also wellness facilities that offer yoga, relaxation classes, reiki and other health boosting activities.
Make sure that you visit the Saturday morning market at the village square from 10am to 12pm. Real farm cheeses, homemade chunky jams and marmalades, a variety of mouth watering pesto’s are but a few of the yummy items on offer. Get there early and take along a bag!
17 October and 14 November - Bushman Blitz:
The scenic town of Greyton is the setting the scene for some iconic trail running events in October and November this year. Spectacular routes of 32km, 20.5km, 11km and 5km will cater for all distance runners. The 32km “Bushman Blitz” is run on the legendary Boesmanskloof Trail from Greyton to McGregor, returning the same day and includes the Reserve route. For more information click here....
31 October - 1 November - Greyton Rose Fair
The 18th annual Greyton Rose Fair showcases the beauty and tranquility of this fairy-like village in Spring. This year the theme of the festival is “Falling in love with Greyton - the village of romance" and the town will be transformed into a stage for lovers, with floral (roses, mostly) exhibitions in various venues. Highlights of this festival include visits to some of Greyton’s most beautiful rose gardens, an arts and crafts market, art exhibitions, various concerts, a fashion show, sports activities and activities for children. Every Saturday morning at 10:00 Greyton's Market Square is abuzz with activity, where people flock to buy the freshest home produce of all descriptions.
Also preservative-free cheeses, plain low-fat yoghurt and farm butter. There is the famous yoghurt cheese (Labneh) seeped in olive oil and flavoured with herbs and spices and made freshly by Petro and Thor every week.
Greyton's famous lemon products include home made lemon cordial made by Kay, Davida's lemon sorbet and pancakes baked on site by Bram and filled with delicious lemon cheese (curd) that is also available in bottles to take home.
Sybil's herb plants are on sale alongside beautifully embroidered cloths of all descriptions, or buy some of Val's tried-and-tested home-made jams and preservatives.
Also on offer are Marika's delightful cakes and pastries (don't get trampled in the rush!), or sample the pies, breads and muffins baked by our own Greyton Wollies Bakery - people flock from afar to sample Susan's wholesome pies.
You can support our Animal Welfare by buying delicious fruits and veg on offer. The Red Cross sells wonderful second-hand books donated by all and sundry in the Village.
Delightfully fragrant essential oil products and natural soaps produced by Earthcrop are available from Sandra alongside her bouquets of herbs and fresh flowers; Sandi's Essential Skin Care Company face care products; or Marian's Replenish Body Care products.
